INTRODUCTION


 

Currently the European Union has nine Special Representatives (EUSRs) in different regions of the world. These representatives were appointed in accordance with Article 18 of the Amsterdam Treaty. The aim of the EUSRs is to represent the EU in troubled regions and countries and to play an active part in promoting the interests and the policies of the EU

I was appointed on July 18, 2005 as an European Special Representative for Sudan. You can read more here

 

 

I was elected in October 2004 as a member of the Helsinki City Council.

Green League is the green party in Finland. It is a member of the European Green Party EGP. Read more about the Finnish Green League from here.

 

The European Green Party (EGP) is representing Green Parties throughout Europe.  Today it has 33 member parties in 30 European countries – including also countries like Russia and Ukraine.

I have been the spokesperson of EGP since 2000.The new spokespersons will be elected in Helsinki, May 2006. Read more about European Greens from here

 

During 1995-2005 I have been working as a Chairman of UNEP´s Post-Conflict Assessment Unit, responsible for post-conflict environmental assessments in countries and areas like Kosovo, Serbia-Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Liberia and Sudan.

Washington Post made an interview on September 29, 2004 on the special environmental challenges in Iraq

My other UN tasks include the evaluation of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, UNECE, in 2005.

The Green League is the Finnish member party to the European Green Party EGP. Ot was established in 1987 – four years after the first green MP´s were elected to the Finnish Parliament.
